Is Space Completely Empty?

Space looks like pure nothingness. In reality, even the emptiest regions contain particles, radiation, fields, and traces of matter spread incredibly thin.

The interstellar medium fills the galaxy with a diffuse mixture of hydrogen gas, helium, trace heavier elements, and microscopic dust particles.
